Not so fast …

Yes, central heat is nice – if only the log house had it. It froze up yesterday – all the pipes, including the toilet. I spent some frustrated, cranky, moments after getting a call from the fellow I’ve rented it to (more about that later). Today I went over there and we were able to get everything thawed and buttoned up. Thawing consisted of Sean crawling under the floor with a propane torch and then me crawling under with a roll of fiberglass insulation for the perimeter of the crawl space. The pipes are in a crawl space that’s just a muddy (well, frozen mud) hole about 3ft deep and 15ft long full of spiders and other creepy things. Lots of fun to stuff insulation along the floor joists while laying on your tummy in that hole.
you said you “didn’t take the time to do a better job of it.” I thought the images were beautiful.

Hi Tafoya, I am afraid the ice pictures were only published on flickr. I’ve got a bunch more. I was sick when I took these but when I woke up and saw what had happened over night I took out with the camera and walked around capturing what I could. My only regret is that I didn’t take the time to do a better job of it.
My lesson from this past year is that the secret to better photography is the ability to see and compose the shot and
that can be done with a phone camera or a 5000 dollar DSLR.
That’s cool…! Thanks for the comments. Will checking your progress.
God Renee – Superwoman much?!! You’re making me cold AND tired (okay, AND cranky) just thinking about the rigors of this cabin you have insisted on renovating.
It will be FABULOUS of course when done – but meanwhile, hey your plate isn’t full enough? Why not start a biodynamic pastured pig farm in your spare time?
I’m so impressed – and I would love to come and see this ice palace with my own two eyes.
love

Beautiful photos Harold! Was “Ice Blvd” published anywhere? It looks very familiar – was it on the news last December during the ice storms?
Hats off to you; that was heroic effort to get the pipes thawed. Although our cold is nothing like what you get we had a version of this back in Dec. when we were without heat for a week. We only lasted two days before taking refuge where there was heat.
Never underestimate the power of a heated dwelling :-).
